Finding Support During a Season of Change

The transition into parenthood — whether through conception, pregnancy, birth, or postpartum — can be both beautiful and deeply challenging. Many expect this season to feel joyful, but instead find themselves overwhelmed by anxiety, grief, or guilt for feeling anything other than “happy.” The truth is, these feelings are incredibly common — and they deserve care and understanding, not silence.

At Ashley Sheff Counseling Services, we provide specialized therapy for those navigating the emotional complexities of the perinatal period. Whether it’s infertility, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, or the adjustment that follows bringing a baby home, our goal is to help clients feel seen, supported, and grounded again.

How EMDR Can Help in the Perinatal Period

As an EMDR Certified Therapist, Ashley integrates EMDR into perinatal mental health treatment to help clients process and release distress related to fertility struggles, pregnancy loss, or traumatic birth experiences. EMDR allows the brain and body to heal in a way that goes beyond traditional talk therapy — helping clients move from emotional overwhelm to a grounded sense of calm and safety.

This approach can be especially powerful for:

  • Traumatic birth experiences or medical trauma

  • Feelings of guilt, fear, or “stuckness” after loss

  • Anxiety or hypervigilance related to pregnancy or parenting

After her own journey into motherhood, Ashley realized how many people face these challenges without adequate emotional support — and how often their pain is minimized or misunderstood. She is passionate about ensuring that perinatal clients receive care from someone who truly understands and can offer both clinical expertise and genuine empathy.
