Lydia Spence, LCSW

Hi, I'm Lydia (she/her).

Curiosity is at the heart of my approach to therapy. I believe it invites us to explore our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with openness rather than judgment. Curiosity serves as an antidote to shame, allowing us to sit with uncertainty, gain insight, and offer compassion to the wounded parts of ourselves.

I help adults from all backgrounds navigate life's challenges and heal from painful experiences — whether it's trauma, self-sabotage, substance use, codependent relationships, persistent negative thoughts, or the emotional challenges that can arise during pregnancy, postpartum, fertility journeys, reproductive loss, and the transition to parenthood.

I have specialized experience working with recovery and LGBTQ+ communities and specialize in trauma treatment using EMDR. My passion lies in supporting individuals as they heal from trauma, with a particular focus on complex PTSD and the emotional challenges that can arise throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition to parenthood.

I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I’ve worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as in college counseling and outreach. I understand the challenges that come with anxiety, depression, self-harm, trauma, and identity exploration.

My practice is informed by psychodynamic, relational, and strength-based perspectives. I believe in the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship and use an integrated, trauma-informed approach that is both person-centered and collaborative. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I integrate EMDR, IFS, DBT, and other evidence-based approaches to create a compassionate, gender-affirming space where you feel empowered in your healing journey.

With a calm presence, curiosity, and empathy, I will work to earn your trust and support you in stepping outside your comfort zone. Together, we can engage with difficult emotions and uncover meaningful insights as you move toward healing and self-acceptance. Whether you're processing trauma, navigating a major life transition, or adjusting to the challenges of pregnancy and parenthood, you don't have to do it alone.
